What Korean travelers need to know about MDAC
Korean travelers visit Malaysia year-round. Business trips to Kuala Lumpur. Shopping in Myeongdong-style Bukit Bintang. Street food in Penang. Diving off Sipadan. The same MDAC rules apply to all of it.
Your Korean passport gets you 90 days visa-free. That is good news. But the MDAC is separate. You fill it in online. It takes about 5 minutes. Do it before you fly.
MDAC requirements for Korean passport holders
Every Korean traveler needs it
Tourist, business, or visiting family. Does not matter. You need the MDAC. No exceptions for Korean passport holders.
72-hour window
Apply within 72 hours of your arrival in Malaysia. Submit too early and your application gets rejected. Submit too late and you might not get confirmation in time.
Have these ready
Your passport. Your flight details. Your hotel address in Malaysia. That is everything you need. The whole thing takes under 5 minutes.
90 days visa-free does not replace MDAC
You can enter Malaysia without a visa for up to 90 days. That is your visa policy. The MDAC is a pre-arrival registration. You need both.
Flights from South Korea to Malaysia
Multiple airlines fly from Korea to Kuala Lumpur and other Malaysian cities. Here is what you can expect.
Seoul (ICN)
Korean Air, Asiana, and Malaysia Airlines fly direct. About 6 hours 30 minutes to KLIA.
Busan (PUS)
Direct flights available seasonally. Popular for travelers in the southeastern region.
Jeju (CJU)
Connecting flights via Seoul or direct to Kota Kinabalu. Holiday travelers love this route.
Daegu (TAE)
Charter and seasonal flights during peak seasons. Check airline schedules before booking.
Common MDAC mistakes for Korean applicants
Small errors cause delays. Here is what Korean travelers get wrong most often.
- Putting your name in Korean order (Kim Min-jun) when the form expects Western order (Min-jun Kim). This is the most common mistake.
- Selecting the wrong visa status. You are visa-free for 90 days. But you still need MDAC. Do not skip it.
- Adding spaces or hyphens to your passport number. Enter it exactly as written on your passport. No formatting.
- Applying during Chuseok or Seollal without allowing extra time. Holiday periods get busy. Apply a day early.
