- Using your South African ID number instead of your passport number. The MDAC form asks for a passport number. Your green ID book or smart ID card number does not work here. Check your passport, not your ID document.

- Confusing surname and middle name fields. Many South Africans have multiple middle names. Some have double-barrelled surnames. Enter your full name exactly as printed on your passport. Do not split a double surname into middle and surname fields.
- Forgetting that visa-free does not mean MDAC-free. Both rules apply. No MDAC means trouble at immigration even with a valid South African passport and 30 days visa-free entry.
