Malaysia MDAC for New Zealand Citizens
Flying from New Zealand? Your NZ passport gets you 90 days visa-free. Good news if you are heading north for some tropical sun.
But you still need the MDAC. Every traveler fills it in before landing. Your passport number, your flight connections, your hotel address. Takes about 5 minutes.
No direct flights from New Zealand. You will connect through Australia or Singapore. We check your form for mistakes so everything is sorted before you leave.

What New Zealand travelers need to know
No direct flights from New Zealand to Malaysia. Most Kiwis connect through Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Singapore. Air New Zealand flies to Singapore, then it is a short hop to KL. Total travel from Auckland runs about 13 to 16 hours.
Your NZ passport gives you 90 days visa-free. Plenty of time for Penang food tours, KL shopping, or Borneo wildlife. But you still need the MDAC. Everyone submits it before landing, regardless of visa status.
Headed to Sabah for diving at Sipadan? Or to the Cameron Highlands for tea country? Same MDAC works for your whole trip. One form, one confirmation.
MDAC requirements for New Zealand travelers
Mandatory for all Kiwis
You need the MDAC. Visa-free does not mean form-free. No exceptions for holidays, business trips, or short visits.
72-hour submission window
Submit within 72 hours before you arrive in Malaysia. Not earlier, not later. The system is strict about this window.
Documents you need
Your NZ passport, your flight details for the whole journey, and your accommodation address in Malaysia. Have them ready.
Entry point details
If you fly into KLIA, that is your entry point. If you land in Singapore first and cross by bus into Johor, your entry point is different. Choose the right one.
Flights from New Zealand to Malaysia
Long haul across the Tasman and beyond. Here is what to expect.
Auckland (AKL)
Air New Zealand flies to Singapore daily. Connect to KL with Singapore Airlines or AirAsia. About 13 hours total from Auckland to KL.
Christchurch (CHC)
Connect through Sydney or Melbourne first. Then onwards via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Total journey around 16 hours.
Wellington (WLG)
Fly to Brisbane or Sydney first. Then connect to Singapore and onwards to KL. Fewer options than Auckland but doable in a day.
Queenstown (ZQN)
Seasonal routes to Australia first. Connect via Sydney or Melbourne to KL. Best for South Island travelers heading to Malaysia.
Common MDAC mistakes by New Zealand travelers
Small errors cause delays. Watch out for these.
- Thinking NZeTA covers Malaysia. It does not. NZeTA is for New Zealand entry. MDAC is for Malaysia entry. Totally separate systems from completely different countries.
- Confusing the entry point. You fly Auckland to Sydney to Singapore to KL. Your departure point for MDAC is not Auckland, it is Singapore (your last stop before Malaysia).
- Submitting too early because of the time zone difference. NZ is 4-5 hours ahead of Malaysia. Your 72-hour window is based on Malaysia local time, not NZ time.
- Not checking passport validity. Malaysian immigration expects your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival.
