Common MDAC mistakes travelers from Macau should avoid

- Selecting "China" instead of "Macao SAR" as your passport nationality. The MDAC form lists Macao SAR as a separate option. Your passport says Macao Special Administrative Region on the cover, not People's Republic of China. Picking the wrong one means your passport number does not match the system.
- Entering your 8-digit Macau ID number in the passport number field. Your Macau identity card number and your Macao SAR passport number are different. The form asks for your passport number only. Check the number printed on the passport data page.
- Putting your family name in the given name field. Macau uses Chinese name order: family name first. If you are Wong Ka-ming, Wong goes in the surname field and Ka-ming goes in the given name field. The MDAC follows Western order, not Chinese order.
- Forgetting that visa-free does not mean MDAC-free. Both rules apply. No MDAC means trouble at immigration even with a valid Macao SAR passport and 90-day visa-free access.
