Malaysia MDAC for Japanese Citizens
Flying from Japan? You get 90 days visa-free in Malaysia. Good news.
But you still need the MDAC. Every traveler fills it in. Your passport number, your flight details, your hotel address. Takes about 5 minutes.
We check your form for mistakes before submission. Name order is the most common one for Japanese travelers. We catch it.
Japan to Malaysia travel snapshot
- 90-day visa-free entry on your Japanese passport
- Direct flights from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka
- Submit your MDAC within 72 hours before arrival
What you need to know about MDAC
Flying from Tokyo Narita? Or Osaka Kansai? There are direct flights to Kuala Lumpur every day. Japan Airlines, ANA, Malaysia Airlines. About 7 hours.
You do not need a visa for Malaysia. 90 days visa-free on your Japanese passport. But the MDAC is separate. Everyone fills it in before landing.
Heading to KL for shopping? Penang for street food? Langkawi for the beaches? Or Sabah for diving? The MDAC is the same wherever you go.
MDAC requirements for your trip
Mandatory for everyone
You need the MDAC. Visa-free does not mean form-free. No exemptions for tourists or business travelers.
72-hour window
Submit your MDAC within 72 hours before you arrive. Too early or too late, the system rejects it. Not earlier, not later.
What you need ready
Your passport, your flight itinerary, and your hotel address in Malaysia. Have them open before you start. Takes under 5 minutes.
Name order catches people out
Your passport says Tanaka Taro. But the MDAC form wants Given Name first, then Family Name. Many Japanese travelers get this wrong. Enter your name exactly as your passport shows it.
Flights from Japan to Malaysia
Direct routes from Japanese cities to KLIA and Penang. Here is what you can expect.

Osaka (KIX)
Direct flights to Kuala Lumpur. Popular departure point for Kansai travelers during Obon and New Year.
Nagoya (NGO)
Direct Malaysia Airlines flights from Chubu Centrair to KLIA. About 7 hours 30 minutes.
Fukuoka (FUK)
Connecting flights via Tokyo or Osaka. Popular for Kyushu travelers heading to KL or Kota Kinabalu.
Common MDAC mistakes to watch for
Small errors cause delays at check-in or immigration. Avoid these.
- Your name in Japanese order (family name first) when the form expects Western order. Or the other way around. Follow your passport exactly.
- Submitting more than 72 hours before you arrive. The system rejects it. Set a reminder 2 days before your flight.
- Entering the wrong arrival point. Transiting through Singapore or Bangkok and entering by land? Your entry point is different from KLIA.
- Forgetting to save or print your MDAC confirmation. Airlines in Japan may ask to see it before they give you a boarding pass.
