Malaysia Digital Arrival Card for Travelers from Bangladesh

Bangladeshi passport holders need a visa for Malaysia. Apply for the eVisa (eVisum) online before you travel. The MDAC is an extra requirement on top of your visa. Both are needed. Your visa lets you enter. The MDAC tells immigration about your trip. Do not forget either one.

Flying from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in Dhaka? Direct flights to Kuala Lumpur International Airport take about 4 hours. Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and Batik Air all operate direct routes. Plenty of options. Submit your MDAC within 72 hours before you board. Double check your passport number against your Bangladeshi passport, not your NID card.

Traveling during Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year in April), Eid-ul-Fitr, or Eid-ul-Adha holidays? Those are the busiest times for Bangladesh travelers heading to Malaysia. Winter months from November to February are also popular. Many Bangladeshi visitors come for both tourism and medical treatment. Apply a day early to be safe. The system gets busy during peak periods.

Kuala Lumpur leads the list of destinations for Bangladesh travelers. Shopping at Bukit Bintang, the Petronas Towers at KLCC, Genting Highlands, Penang, Langkawi, and Kota Kinabalu are all popular choices. Many travelers from Bangladesh also visit Penang for medical tourism. The same MDAC covers your whole trip across both Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. List the hotel where you stay first as your Malaysia address on the form.

Malaysia MDAC requirements for travelers from Bangladesh

Who needs MDAC

Every Bangladeshi passport holder entering Malaysia needs to submit MDAC before arrival. This includes tourists, medical travelers, and short-term visitors. Having a visa does not remove the MDAC requirement.

When to apply from Bangladesh

You can submit MDAC within 3 days (72 hours) before your arrival date in Malaysia. Not earlier, not later. Set a reminder on your phone the day before you fly from Dhaka.

What you need

Your Bangladeshi passport with the English name exactly as printed, your flight details from DAC, and your hotel address in Malaysia. Have these ready before you start.

MDAC is not a visa

MDAC is an arrival card, not a visa. You still need a valid Malaysia visa (eVisa/eVisum) before you travel. The visa and the MDAC are two separate requirements. Prepare both.

What travelers from Bangladesh should prepare before MDAC submission

Get these ready and the form takes about 3 minutes.

Valid passport

Use the exact English name, number, and expiry date from your Bangladeshi passport. Not the Bangla version. Not your NID number. Bangladeshi passports show names in both Bangla and English. Use the English transliteration only.

Travel dates

Know your arrival and departure dates before you start. Changing them later means a new submission. Bangladesh uses DD/MM/YYYY format. The MDAC also uses DD/MM/YYYY so the date format should not confuse you. Just enter the correct dates.

Flight details

Have your flight number and airline ready. Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and Batik Air all fly direct from DAC to KUL. Include the flight number exactly as shown on your booking confirmation.

Address in Malaysia

Your hotel name and address for your first night in Malaysia. Write it in Latin script using the Malaysian address format: hotel name, street, city, postcode, state. If you have not booked yet, choose something refundable so the address is correct.

Common MDAC mistakes travelers from Bangladesh should avoid

Catching these early saves you time at immigration.

  • Entering the Bangla script version of your name instead of the English transliteration. The MDAC form only accepts Latin characters. Look at the English name line on your passport. That is what you enter. Not the Bangla line above it.
  • Using your Bangladeshi NID (National ID) number instead of your passport number. The MDAC form asks for passport details only. Your NID number is different from your passport number. Double check that you are entering the right document.
  • Making up a surname when your Bangladeshi passport has only one name. Many Bangladeshi passports list a full name without separating given and family names. If you have no surname, enter your full name in the given name field. Use FNU for surname or leave it blank. Do not invent a surname.
  • Forgetting that you need both a visa and the MDAC. The eVisa (eVisum) lets you enter Malaysia. The MDAC registers your arrival details. You need both. Do not submit one and think the other is covered.

Was worried about the name issue because my passport does not have a separate surname field. The instructions explained exactly what to do. Entered FNU for surname and it worked. Smooth process from Chittagong to KL.
