Flying from Pago Pago International Airport? You will fly to Honolulu first on Hawaiian Airlines, then on to Tokyo with Japan Airlines or ANA, and finally to Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia X. Total travel time is 22 to 35 hours with at least 2 stops.
American Samoans carry US passports and get 90 days visa-free in Malaysia. It is a separate arrival-card step before you reach Malaysian immigration. You do not need a visa, just the digital arrival card.
Heading from Pago Pago through Honolulu toward Kuala Lumpur and Batu Caves? Langkawi for the beaches? Penang for street food? Borneo for wildlife and diving? American Samoa travelers need the MDAC at Malaysian immigration, even if the holiday continues beyond Kuala Lumpur.
Travel peaks during US summer break (June to August) and around Christmas and New Year. Plan ahead and submit your MDAC a day early during these busy months. The South Pacific cyclone season runs from November to April. Your routing through Honolulu and Tokyo is generally unaffected, but check weather on the Pago Pago to Honolulu leg.

via LAX + Tokyo

Common MDAC mistakes to watch for
The biggest risks are choosing the wrong nationality or using the departure date instead of the KLIA arrival date.
- Selecting American Samoa as nationality. The MDAC form has a country dropdown. Only United States of America exists. Pick that one.
- Submitting the MDAC too early. With a 22+ hour trip, submit exactly 72 hours before your Kuala Lumpur arrival, not before you leave Pago Pago.
- Entering the wrong arrival point. Your entry into Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur (KLIA). Do not list Honolulu or Tokyo as your final destination.
- Booking separate tickets for each leg. With 3+ flights, a single booking protects you if you miss a connection. Self-transfer is risky on long-haul multi-stop trips.
